Why I Chose
This Profession
|
Having been a multi-pet owner for over 40 years, I have made it a life long commitment to understand animal behavior. I am currently a pet parent to 3 Japanese Chin dogs ranging in age from 6 - 12 years old. Add a feathered friend to the mix and you can be assured that I truly appreciate the individual needs of each pet.
Thirty years of working in an office environment was challenging , fast paced and fulfilling in it's own way but a couple years ago a shoulder injury forced me to reconsider my working options. While recovering, I found myself walking my dogs a lot. The joy they have when we go out and the enjoyment I found in reconnecting with god and nature gave me a new perspective on what I should be doing with my life. A suggestion from a friend (multi-dog owner) to look at animal care professions quickly lead me to "do what comes naturally". I took on a few pet sitting jobs and word spread. I find great joy in meeting new people and their pets. This profession allows me to continue expanding my knowledge of dog and cat behavior, as well as studying birds and other smaller creatures in depth. It's very rewarding and has a lot less stress than my former career! |

Core Principles
We adhere to these core principles in everything we do.
1 - Accuracy. Above all else, accurately recording details of clients pet care needs, from behavioral to nutrition. Accurate details pertaining to issues that the client has raised helps in providing reliable solutions.
2 - Respect. We respect our clients right to privacy during their trip and respect their right to timely status updates when issues regarding their pets arise. Our clients are the only reason we stay in business, and if we fail them, we fail ourselves.
3 - Professionalism. We present a professional image and courtesy in our communication with clients and associates at all times. A positive image conveys a sense of expertise and immediate respect for our abilities to do the job right.
4 - Communication. Sincere communication both verbally and through body language conveys a sense of trust to our clients. A calm, relaxed demeanor disarms most pets and raises our clients feeling of confidence about our company and role in caring for their beloved pets.

Pet Care Options Today
Do you worry about the one-on-one T.L.C. your pet will receive while in kennel care?
Kennels are busy environments; strange people, noises, dogs barking and limited turn out times can be overwhelming to your pet.
Do you worry about a stranger coming into your home?
These days, we have to rely on references, credentials and our gut instincts before we allow a stranger to access our home. As long as we have done our homework, homecare visits are a convenient option for some pets.
What about my dog who is ~ insecure, delicate, an only pet, a senior, has special needs?
Our Home-Style Care allows the dog to be a part of everyday sounds, smells and activities just the way it would be at your home. We adhere to the routines, rules and feeding/sleeping arrangements they are familiar with to maintain a normal routine. |
I have experienced first hand the daily workings of kennels, both private and public shelter accomodation. I have observed that some dogs seem unphased by the kennel environment, while other pets are clearly unhappy and depressed when left in kennel care.
I once had no alternative but to kennel a beloved King Charles Spaniel cross for 10 days while I relocated from one province to another. She was an adult dog, easy going, lovable but not overly attached (or so I thought). When I went to pick her up, I was shocked to find my sweet girl thin, smelly and totally unresponsive to my voice. She had obviously been pining for her family and had given up any hope of our returning for her. I clipped her lead on and led her around the yard, talking to her. It was hard to believe that she didn't even register my scent, much less my voice! After several minutes, we walked to the truck and I said "go for a ride Sophie?". Something just clicked inside her and she went crazy - jumping on me, spinning in circles and she just couldn't get into that truck fast enough. I was thrilled to see her spark come back and gladly received all of her wet, doggy kisses. I never left her in a kennel again.
Many dogs have kenneled year after year with little anxiety, stress or discomfort. But I believe that as we continue to make our pets a part of the family and not just the household, they need more. More attention, more exercise and an environment where the only stress they really experience is your absence. What I notice most about my At home-care pet clients is how quickly they adjust to my scheduled coming and going without becoming stressed out. They eat well, play well and in many cases get more daily one-on-one interaction while the owner is gone than they normally receive. |
